Question about
Noise of Drobo
Are the power bricks still emitting the high pitched noise? Also I'm currently using a Synology DS207+ 2 drive nas and it's fairly noisy. What's the noise level for putting the drive near the computer or would it get annoying?
I believe the issue with the power bricks has been resolved, last I checked on their forums.
As far as operating noise of the unit itself, the fan noise isn't going to be the main concern, rather the five spinning/seeking hard drives. The design of the chassis does accentuate the reverberation of the hard drives a bit.
That being said, since it's an FS, why have it in the same room unless you absolutely have to? Shove it somewhere out of sight with a long Ethernet cable and you don't have to worry about the noise or the extra heat that 5 running HDDs will produce.

No high pitched noise from my less than one year old Drobo FS. Tried it under the desk -- too noisy, I moved it into the equipment area with the commercial grade switch (with fans) and router as soon as my long ethernet cable arrived. I agree that the noise from the drives is the loudest, though the fan noise contributes too. When I open the door to the room the switch fans *and* the Drobo are at about the same level of noise.
