Nikon has revealed their new mirrorless cameras, what do you think?

Engadget ( www.engadget.com/2011/09/21/nikon-unveils-v1-and-j... ) has just dropped the story that Nikon has revealed two new mirrorless cameras, the V1 and J1. They look aimed more toward the amateur crowd in my opinion since they're only boasting 10MP sensors, and as Engagdet points out, an ISO limit of 3200. For that reason, I'll pass on these and wait for something a bit more high end.

What do you think? Will you be getting one?

UPDATE: As for pricing, looks like they will both be available October 20th in the US, with the J1 kit going for $650 and the V1 kit going for $900.

I like the idea, but for the price I was hoping for a bigger sensor. Notice that in the article you linked to the sample footage is all done outside with natural lighting. I wonder how this camera will do indoors and in low-light conditions.

The new CX sensor is too small to be interesting to me (2.7x crop factor). If they hit those price points with a mirrorless APS-C sensor (1.7 crop factor), that would be more interesting; but I suppose Nikon doesn't want to eat into the lower end of their DSLR product line.

It is understandable but sad that even this early post by engadget is hinting that the glass is going to be second-rate at best. I was hoping NIkon would do more to compete with Four Thirds System cameras, but they seem to be counting on their brand for success.

Disappointing . . .

Not that interested to be honest, going to stick with my Panasonic GF-1 for another year and have a look again after that. Seems overpriced and underspecified to me. Interesting to see Nikon enter the game but it just seems a lame move to jump in with such an average camera in an already competitive market. Maybe they should stick to what they are good at?

Nice, but no killer features. Way over priced if they are going after the consumer market.

The design of these cameras is great! Still, I'm gonna wait to see what Cannon has in the works.
