Question about
New MacBook Air, or Old MacBook Pro?
I currently have a late 2010 13" Macbook Pro. I have the opportunity to get a 13" MacBook Air for basically no money right now because of points I have. However, I would need a 512gb SSD drive I think, and I don't know if it will it be fast enough if I surf the web, edit photos and edit video casually (Pixelmator and iMovie respectively), create documents, watch/stream video? Is it worth the upgrade?
P.S. I am in no hurry to get a new computer, but the points expire soon so I may as well use them.

I have a Mid 2010 13" MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz / 8 GB, with an aftermarket Intel SSD) as my home machine, and a 13-inch Mid-2011 Core i7 (1.8 GHz / 4 GB, 256 GB SSD) as my work machine. The Air “feels” substantially faster at everything except gaming, where the integrated graphics slow it down; and running multiple virtual machines at once, where 4 GB RAM just isn't enough. If your current MBP doesn't have an SSD, the Air is going to blow it away at the tasks you're talking about.

It will definitely be fast enough for those tasks, especially for browsing/streaming/document editing. I don't know how much of a performance benefit you will see from your Core 2 Duo MacBook pro though. A low power i5 is probably comparable.
Realistically unless you need it, you may be better off spending your points on other things if you are happy with your 2010 MBP

The i5 ivy bridge processor in the MacBook Air would speed up those tasks significantly. Plus the SSD is fast and agile in comparison to an HDD. I have a mid 2010 MBP and would upgrade in the blink of an eye for that price. No an upgrade is not necessary but I don't think you would be disappointed with the upgrade either. Also, I think it would be beneficial to get a 1TB USB 3.0 external drive and stick with the lower storage on the laptop
