Need a better video player (currently old 128MB card) and since I can't afford a new computer just yet I'm trying to decide between the…

"PS3" and "WD TV Live". PS3 has the advantage of Bluray Player and gaming (though not many games I would buy for PS3), but WD TV Live is cheaper and plays more filetypes like OGG and FLAC, which is bonus because I do listen to music through my TV when I have guests over. Hmmm.... what to do?

I have got both, so ere is the deal the PS3 is great and the image quality is brill but it will not play your .mkv files that you may acquire...unless you use a transcoder from your pc to do the conversion process or you can change the .mkv file with some free windows software into a compatible format.
The wdtv live plays everything it even does the dts to stereo thing also. The wdtv is very cool but the asus o play seems to have a better internet experience etc, the wdtv only has youtube. But it PLAYS EVERYTHING, and it can stream brilliantly and once the box and hard drive are connected to the network it will work as a NAS device as well and at a reasonable speed. The hard drive format thing supports mac, windows and linux partitions also.

I think I would go for the wdtv.

I have a 360 and the WD TV Live. Since I got the WD I have stopped using my 360 as a media center extender. The only problem I have is that sometimes I have to unplug then replug the HDMI, but this could just be a compatibility thing with my HDMI switch.

I see you already purchased the WDTV but I was going to recommend investment in Acer AspireRevo or Zotac & run XBMC.
