My desktop is on life support right now and can no longer support syncing with my iPod, so I'm going to need to start using my laptop to sync instead.

However, I'm not a big fan of starting over, so what's the best way to get my desktop iTunes library--including playlists--onto the laptop?

There's a ton of guides on teh nets. www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving...
etc

The basic upshot for the simplest move is to copy all your iTunes data in your My Music folder, while keeping your destination location the same *for your music files*. There are other ways to do it - and having gnashed my teeth in frustration at iTunes many times I'm intimately familiar with them. It'll depend on what situation you're in, storage-wise.
