Question about
My current phone is the Sprint HTC Hero. I just moved to a new apartment, and my signal is horrible.
I will sometimes get notified that I have voicemail when my phone never even rang, and my calls are dropped constantly, plus the quality is bad while I'm on a call. I used to have an iPhone and I'm thinking of switching back, but the problem is I have no idea whether the signal with AT&T will be any better. Both Sprint and AT&T show my area as having "decent" or "moderate" coverage (they both use a 3-level scale and I'm the middle level). I still have my iPhone 3G lying around, although it doesn't have any service. Is there a way I can use it to measure the signal strength? Is there any way, other than getting a friend over who has AT&T, to tell if it'll be an improvement to switch?

Call Sprint and tell the tech support rep you need a PRL update. PRL stands for preferred roaming list but it does something odd with reception. You'll have to hang up and trust that they'll set it up for you.
In Android 2.x with Sense there is an option under settings to update the PRL and Profile. Not sure what version or flavor you're running.
Good luck!

Tell your friend to come over, borrow their SIM card, stick it in your old iPhone 3G and do some testing. I know you don't want to have to do that, but really it's the most reliable method. Those coverage maps they have online are a joke.
