Question about
maybe a dumb question:
if i have an HD movie on my imac, will this play in HD via the new appleTV to my tv (obviously hd. 720p)? i haven't been able to find much online.
The Apple TV supports 720p video. As far as whether or not your current movie on your iMac will play, it depends on a few things. What is it encoded in?
The Apple TV will only play Quicktime or H.264 encoded movies. If you ripped your movie from a DVD or downloaded via a torrent site, you might need to convert it to the correct format (check out Handbrake for a free and awesome movie conversion app). After that's done, you'll need to import the movie into iTunes so your Apple TV can see it.
If you purchased the movie through iTunes, the movie should play just fine with the Apple TV with no further conversion.
