Max RAM for MBP 17" Fall 2010 Model?

I only have 4GB of RAM on my MBP 17" model and using FCP X uses up all my RAM it takes forever to use. What is the max amount of RAM I can put on this MBP?

According to Apple's official tech specs it can support up to 8GB of RAM. The specs page -- gdgt.com­/apple­/macbook­-pro­/17­-inch­/unibody­/specs/ -- for the laptop you added also states the total is 8GB of RAM. More info on the laptop can be found here: support.apple.com­/kb­/SP581
