Question about
Magnet clip on the Arc mouse: can it be harmful to the computer components?
Does the magnet clip on the Microsoft Arc mouse can harm computer components such as the monitor and hard drive?
I wonder if the magnetic field of the magnet clip on the Arc mouse could harm a laptop, for example, when the mouse is packaged in a case closed to the computer.
The mouse is very cool and works well, but when I realized that it had a magnet I was doubtful about the impact it could have on my computer. I checked if the magnetic field was exceeding the mouse shell and it does. Then, it would mean that if I put it in my cases with my laptop, the magnetic field would necessarily enter in contact with it. Can it cause damage? I have contacted Microsoft, but their cliental service haven't gave me clear answer about this issue.

No it will not harm anything in your computer unless your laptop uses a CRT monitor...which I would consider unlikely.
Seriously though, My MacBook has a magnetic plug for the power cord, seriously doubt magnets hurt components these days.

I've never had any problems, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. I always put it in the little pouch and throw it in my laptop bag.

I always had it in the pouch, which incidentally also used a magnet to stay shut. I never had any problems and I often used the mouse on the palm rest of my laptop. The mouse wheel broke very soon after I got the mouse (3 months).

Consider this. Most laptops these days have a magnetic latch anyways so the answer would be no it will in no way harm your laptop or any external hard drives or media. Besides the magnet is simply not strong enough.

I will try to get an answer from HP (my laptop is a HP 311) to see what they will say about this.
