Question about
Looking for wireless speakers. Debating Airplay vs Bluetooth models.
Concerned that bluetooth will not transmit good enough sound quality. I have all Apple products so Airplay is available to all.
Read the reviews on iLounge. They've been pretty negative on AirPlay. Both on the added expense vs. bluetooth, the lack of quality improvement (on small speaker systems anyway where the quality difference is probably not audible), and on issues with the systems dropping streams even given solid WiFi connections.
Personally I'm sticking with Bluetooth speakers for anything portable.

I recently bought the Bose Soundlink speakers, pretty good quality for bluetooth. So far I havent had any problems even at high volmes. Also for AirPlay you would need to be on the same wifi network, so if you are in a park for example and want to pay music you wont be able to.

Given the bandwidth available on WiFi, Airplay should sound better. In theory, Airplay could send music with no compression (unlike bluetooth), but again, it's impractical. And expensive. Bluetooth is universal, reliable (sort of) and less expensive. I own the Bose Soundlink speakers and can't complain about the sound quality I get from my MacBook on it.
I'm not saying "go ahead and buy Bose", but instead "don't go for Airplay". There are other nice bluetooth speakers, which have decent sound quality and portability, although I can only recommend the Bose Soundlink because is the one I own.
