LED is solid red, MiFi doesn't work

Yesterday, my MiFi started blinking red. I tried to charge it, but the power LED just turned red. Now it doesn't work at all - if I turn it on, the LED just turns solid red. The status light never turns on at all. When I connect it via USB, the VZAccess software doesn't detect it.

I've seen a few other reports of this, and they all say that Verizon replaced the device because it's a hardware problem. I'm calling Verizon today, but if anyone knows of a way to fix this with some sort of reset, I'd love to hear it, because I'm traveling.

Mine (Sprint) had the same issues. Not just any micro USB charger can charge this thing. It seems to need a 700 to 1000 mAh output.

This problem came and went. It finally died and I got a replacement.

Don't forget to do a hard reset... using a paper clip or small pin find the hole above the pins in the battery chamber and pressing it for a few seconds will cause a hard reset...

I'm using the MiFi 2352 (GSM version). My device showed a similar behavior when powered with the power adapter. Only removing the battery got me back to a normal state. I somehow could charge the device with the supplied USB cable and my iPhone USB power adapter.

I recently send the device back for repair. Waiting for the return.

I spent 30 minutes on the phone with Verizon going through resetting and toubleshooting, and they were ready to ship a new MIFI 2200, when I tried changing out the battery and that fixed the problem with the red-light ...
the battery went bad in less than 6 months :(

At least, the warranty covers a year, so Verizon sent me a new battery :)

My MiFi (a 2200 from Virgin Mobile) was acting squirrelly in the same way - rickrowland58's suggestion did the trick!

Also, FWIW a tech from Verizon told me that when they recently sent me another (the 6th one!!) MiFi that there had been a hardware revision... At first I was skeptical but so far so good. It's worked for a month but that's about par for the course for my previous 6 units.. If this one does the same I am taking this thing to the nearest verizon store and I won't be Mr. Niceguy... Let's hope it keeps working.... (being a radio broadcast engineer, I think the problem with unit is either faulty logic or the charger is burning up some circuitry in the charging portion of the unit.

I had a similar problem. I tried a new battery and bought a new charger; neither solved the problem. A friend was visiting with a newer version of the MiFi (2372) and his charger worked successfully charged my 2200. I bought one of those over the web and I am in business again. BTW, Verizon was useless in figuring this out.
