Is this yet another proprietary OS or is it built on Android?

It might actually be worth looking into if there is some app capability with Android.

I met with them last month, and what they told me is that it will be compatible with most Android apps, but they can't guarantee that it will be with all or that compatibility will be guaranteed going forward.

It uses what they call the GridOS - built on the Android kernel. www.fusiongarage.com/grid-os/about

On that page it lists that it supports Android apps via the Amazon Market.

It is definitely majorly skinned, but it does have some compatibility with Android.
