Is there any way to make Safari on the iPad open a page in full screen mode?

I know that this can be done if the page is bookmarked to your home screen and the page contains a certain meta tag, but I'd like to do this for a site where I do not have control of the content.

Try the free alternative browser Terra. I use it for most things instead of Safari. Too bad Apple doesn't allow the user to set their own default browser...

I don't think that's possible in Safari, but other browsers in the App Store are capable of doing this.
