Is there a way to search my music collection in Mango?
One of the rotten consequences of upgrading to WP 7.5 is that the magnifying glass search button has become only a Bing button, instead of the context-sensitive button it used to be.
In the main Music & Videos (Zune) hub, if you pull the "..." up, you can find a "search marketplace" option which will find artists, song names, and albums in the marketplace and will note "in collection" if it is on the device. However, I have some music that is not in Zune's marketplace, at least not with the artist/title that I have listed, and the search comes up with nothing.
Is there a way to include device search in here?
If not, is there a way to restore "search music" functionality to the search button in the M&V hub?
It seems there's no way.... yet. In the WP Feature Suggestion Forums - windowsphone.uservoice.com/forums/101801-feature-s... - there are three different threads requesting this functionality. I suspect that in countries where the Zune Pass is not offered, they might not even have the option to "search zune marketplace" at the bottom of the Music & Videos Hub. If you are interested in seeing this functionality added, please visit the forums and vote up one of those threads.
It's all right, but I have a few songs under some letters... like 3-4 flicks to get through all the "S" songs, for instance.
So when I'm looking to play a particular song, I have to tap on the Music & Videos hub, tap Music, flick twice to Songs, tap the # box, tap the letter I'm looking for, then swipe down to the song & tap it.
Yes and no. Obviously you want to cache stuff, since there's no cast-iron guarantee you'll have 3G everywhere. For example, if I commute in a city with a subway system - well, you can pretty much rule out any ad hoc Pass browsing. Similarly, it's not impossible just to cue up say a couple of gigs of music you're going to listen to that way, but having a decent selection on hand means you have options.
For example, I don't always watch TED video podcasts let alone anything else - but when I want to, I can realistically only have one or two episides on an 8Gb device.
I *really* need a 64Gb device. Since it doesn't look as though we'll get one in WP7 anytime soon, I'm seriously considering jumping ship to iOS - or even take a temporary detour with Meego.
I added a microSD card, so it's more of an issue for me than most users, I guess. I've got a lot of songs on there and I haven't subscribed to the Zune Pass, because I'd rather have Spotify now that Zune Pass doesn't have free downloads and I can use Spotify on my iPad too.
I really wish they had made a device with bigger storage... and I really wish Verizon had a decent Windows Phone. I will not pay for a device that is about the same as my current one, so I'll probably end up jumping ship too, to Android.
Holy cow. I don't have an answer but after reading your question I tried to search my music and ran into the same problem. That kind of sucks, although I might never have discovered it if I hadn't read this question (99% of the time I just shuffle tunes or hit a SmartDJ mix). Thanks to the limited storage on my device, I only have about 2.5 gigs of music stored locally anyway so it's not too onerous to just find a particular artist by tapping the appropriate letter.
Still, it's a basic feature that I simply cannot believe is unavailable to us. WTF, Microsoft?
Agreed. I added a MicroSD card to my Focus, So I've got about 12 GB of songs on here, and many are not listed in the Zune Marketplace, so finding them is hunting and pecking.
Shuffle & SmartDJ are nice, but I've ended up using specific playlists too.
