Is there a way to disable the screen's backlight during video playback?

I like to download the video versions of some podcasts in case there is some visual aspect in the show. Most of the time, I'm not watching the screen, only listening, so it would be nice to disable the backlight to save battery life. I keep it on the lowest brightness setting already, I wish it went down more (even to all the way off).

Are there any hacks or ideas on how to disable the backlight during video playback?

Thank you.

I just caught this video from Lifehacker on how to just playback the audio of video podcasts with an iPhone and I figured if you're planning on picking one up (or an iPod touch), that you'd find it useful: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYaOpBu56aw

I was thinking something like Rockbox (www.rockbox.org/) would have that ability, but it doesn't look like it even supports the more recent Nanos.

The best advice I can offer is to throw an extra charging cable in you bag!
