Question about
Is there a way to charge the HP TouchPad using a PC's USB port?
I know it would be much slower than with the AC charger but would be a nice backup option.

It depends on how powerful the USB port is. Certain USB ports only give out a certain amount of power and that is what dictates if it will be able to charge a device. On my computers I've only been able to charge mp3 players & phones via USB. My iPad2 and NookColor were not able to be charged when only using the usb cable.
Here is an article from Geek-News in which the author says that USB 2.0 ports do not have enough power to charge the touchpad www.geek-news.net/2011/07/hp-touchpad-charging-iss...

There is an app called ASUS Ai Charger that allows my ipad2 to be charged from USB by somehow upping the port power. Google it and give it a go, its free. Hopefully will work on Touchpad too.
I should add this is via windows 7.

I have ASUS Ai for my iPad, works great for that. However, it doesn't work for my touchpad.

Just loaded Android (cyanogenmod7 Alpha) and now it is charging off my pc when running it, much slower though. Also even works on an 850mA AC adapter that came with my original Motorola Droid at about the same rate as my pc.
