From time to time, TiVo will have a promotion where you can get lifetime access for a discount. This usually happens right before a new model comes out and it is not transferable to a new unit. I have a TiVo HD and was able to get the lifetime contract for $99 during a special offer right before the Premiere was announced. However, if I upgrade the unit I lose this privilege.
