Is the time right to buy a Fitbit now?

From looking at the previous questions there have been issues with buggy firmware and software problems. It looks like they are pretty easy to find now so my only worry is about the firmware/software issues that some have mentioned. Has the Mac software been updated as to not cause kernel panics? Can the device firmware be updated from a Mac to correctly track sleep patterns over multiple days, etc?

I use the Fitbit with a Mac and while I have never experienced the kernel panic issue (though obviously others have), the problem I keep having is that it is very difficult to get it to sync. I usually need to pop the Fitibit into the base station and then unplug and plug the base station back in before it'll start working. Sometimes even then it doesn't work and I need to reboot before it'll start syncing again. It's frustrating.
