Is it worth purchasing?
How much are you looking to spend on your laptop? What are you looking to do with your laptop? Are you replacing another computer? If so how well is the older computer running?

I have loved every MacBook Pro I've owned. I even loved the MacBook I own. Is it worth it to me to buy a new MacBook Pro, no. I have a year old Imac, MacBook Pro, and a 4 year old MacBook.

The new MacBook Pro is a great machine and will most likely give you 3 to 4 years of solid performance before it starts to wear down or the technology is outdated. But nobody can tell you if it's worth it to purchase this computer with out more information.

If you're looking for reviews of the computer see the review section:

Also you linked the older MacBook Pro, here is the current version.

Here is my review of the MacBook Pro:

If I didn't have a computer right now and I was looking to buy a mac laptop I'd most likely go with a MacBook Pro. I end up watching a fair number of DVD's on my computer and MacBook Air doesn't do that so well.

Well, at this point, it is not that new. Based on the usual update schedule, they will probably do some kind of update in about a couple months or so according to buyersguide.macrumors.com and there are also rumors about it being a thinner/lighter design like the Macbook Air so likely no Superdrive www.macrumors.com/2011/07/26/apple-finishing-up-wo...

There have also been some tweaks to the currently available MBPs for Lion including newly labeled keyboard keys and no physical media much like the Macbook Air (Lion is preinstalled) according to: www.macrumors.com/2011/07/28/apples-existing-mac-l...

If you don't care about a built-in Superdrive, I would say it is better to wait for the new thinner/lighter design.

It has been a great machine. Plenty of space on the hard drive, fast processor, and if you upgrade the memory, the Core i7 runs everything smoothly. While I have been more than happy with the upgrade from a 2007 MacBook Pro, you may also want to check out this article by Jason Snell at MacWorld on how it compares with the new Air... www.macworld.com/article/161434/2011/08/macbook_ai...
