I have a friend that is really interested in upgrading. He's had the Palm Pixi (Web OS) for about 2 years already, so i know the leap to Android will be quite "fun". I'm not too worried about it being shipped out with an old version of Android due to the fact that I know how to root, (currently running Cyangoen Mod 7 on my HTC Evo 4g myself) if it's even possible on this device.
A good detailed review would be awesome especially since he's not so "techy" himself.

Check out this review from This Is My Next (the cool guys from Engadget). The Kyocera Echo review is about 1/3 of the way down the page: thisismynext.com/2011/04/21/kyocera-echo-acer-icon...
In short, from everything I've read about the phone, it's pretty janky and the dual screen feature is overrated. There aren't many apps that make use of it, and it just seems gimmicky. Also, as the TIMN review says, the hinge can be frustrating at times.
He could wait for the Palm Pre 3 which is due out soon. Or, if he's on Sprint, he should definitely try out the Nexus S 4G.
Good luck!
