Question about
Scape3d

Is the Kinect really that good/fun? I've played the demo unit at Best Buy just briefly so I couldn't really give it a fair judgement.

From what I've read, the original Kinetic was going to be extremely robust, as in have tighter and precise control/vision but had to be scaled back due to cost. I'm wondering if I should wait for the 2nd generation?

I have a 4 year old boy and a 2 year girl. Would it be good for them or is it too complex for that age?

I played with it at a family members house, so I had a decent amount of time with it, and I thought it was fun, especially for kids since there's a lot of physical activity. I played party games, like Kinect Adventures, and beauty of the Kinect is that makes you do movements that you do day-to-day like crouching, moving left or right, and jumping, so I don't think it would be complicated for kids. The controls are pretty good, but I wouldn't say it has the 1:1 precision. There is a small, but noticeable lag.

My only concern is that it could potentially go the way of the Wii. I remember when I first experienced the Wii, I could play Wii Sports for hours on end. After a few weeks, the novelty wore off and no games I was interested were being released, so I got pretty bored of it. It's now sitting under my TV collecting dust. At $150, I'd be hesitant to pick one up for that reason.

We got Kinect Launch day and we love it, especially our 3 kids 16, 13, and 10. To them its like having real magic in the palm of their hands. They love the game especially the kinectimals my GF even enjoys playing it and we can never get her to play anything except for GT5 on the playstation. I dig the sports like the javelin throw and boxing are my favorites. for familys the kinect is great, for lone wolf gamers probably not so much, unless they issue a a Mech Warriror game for the kinect during E3 now that would be a blast

There is defintely a lag to the controls. I would hold off until the next generation.

I have sports, dancing, adventures, and the work out game. I bought it mainly for the GF so she can play "video games" ... we'll see how long it lasts. The kids will love it for sure. As for the adult gamers, you should probably wait.

I think it is really fun, and has been more permanent than the wii for me. I still play it frequently after three months.

It's fun, but it requires a big space to be truly enjoyable. Not good if you have a tight living room. And yes, it's laggy, and detection is iffy, but if the game is well designed, it's still highly enjoyable.

For me, it's very much like the Wii. Fun at first, but after a while it simply collects dust.
