Is the iPad with cellular data really worth the cost?

I'm going to get the new iPad soon, but I'm struggling to decide whether or not to get the 4G version. The main obstacle is whether or not to total cost of the device would really be worth it.

I currently have a 1st-gen wifi-only iPad and an iPhone 4S with Personal Hotspot (and 4GB of data) on AT&T. Because the 4G iPad is $130 more than the wifi-only version, I want to make sure I would get my money's worth. If I were to get it, I would reduce my iPhone plan to 2GB per month without the hotspot since my iPad is currently the only device I use with the hotspot. My additional iPhone data and hotspot feature costs me $15 per month, which I would cut. In order for me to come out even financially, then, I would only use the 4G data for roughly two months out of the year, which is unlikely. Any more than that, and I end up paying more than I do now after the $130 device premium. That's not a reason not to get the 4G version, but it's the financial reality.

So my question is: if I currently use my wifi-only iPad with my iPhone personal hotspot, what is the benefit of getting the 4G iPad, other than the obvious speed increases of 4G (I live in a 4G city for both Verizon and AT&T)? How are other people weighing these options? Is it all about the 4G speeds?

Have you really felt a need for more speed on your iPad? You seem very concerned about financials, and if that is the case, I would stick to your current system of tethering to your phone.

You may also want to analyze your usage. The only time I am not in a wifi zone is when I am on the bus or train, the rest I am at home or work. I can live without wifi at those times, or even then just use my phone (and tether if absolutely necessary)

Keeping on the financial side of things - Resale. I looked at resale price of the 3G ones vs. Wi-Fi only and they were just a little more. So in addition to paying $130 more now, it doesn't pay off in the end.
