Is the Drobo loud?

I bought drives that are extra cool, should that help?

My experience has been that at start up it can be a little bit load until it is self-aware enough to know that it is not overheating and it will slow down the fan.

During normal operation the noise will depend on the amount of airflow. So if you make sure it is clear in the front and back so that it can move the air then over all it will be cooler and the fan will not spin up as much so it will be quiet. In my case quieter than the Dell Optiplex I have it connected to.

The drives once up and spinning don't tend too make much noise. If they are making lots of random loud noises then honestly there is probably a problem with the drive as they should only have a very low hum from the spinning. You will get some sound when the heads are parked or woken up but mine is used enough when I am near it that it doesn't often spin down when I could hear it.
