Question about
Is the 2.3Ghz Macbook Pro much better than the 2.2Ghz one?
I'm thinking the clock speed isn't as important as the extra L3 cache 2.3Ghz gets (8MB vs 6MB for 2.2). I'll be using it mostly for gaming and programming.

The ultimate answer is that it isn't, relatively speaking, worth the extra $250. However, if money is no object and you want the fastest MacBook Pro available...go for it. But don't dare neglect to get an SSD.

"Much better" is entirely subjective. Personally, I'd say for $250 the answer is no. My experience over the years is a slightly faster clock speed (even with the 1/3 increase in L3 cache) isn't going to make a noticeable difference in performance.

Though the L3 cache does matter more than processor speed, the performance increase from switching is negligible. If you want better performance and can stomach the price, I'd go for the SSD upgrade.
