You can't buy it without a dock, but Logitech has cheaper Harmony remotes which do not include a dock.

I can't speak to other Harmony remotes, except I assume they are all pretty good. The One with the larger LCD screen turned out to be the easiest for other family members to understand how to use the remote, plus I'm a sucker for the bigger screen and the rechargeable battery is convenient (but since I have only had rechargeable, I don't know how the others do).

One question is how many devices you want to hook up to the remote --- the lower priced Harmony remotes handle less devices. Also, if you check online, I think you can get the One at a pretty big discount off of retail, so depending on which other remote you are considering, cost savings might not be as much as you expect.
