Is it worth it to 'opt-out' and add '_nomap' to our SSID to protect our network from Google?
Not really, you're making a public broadcast with your wifi network so in my opinion Google has the right to make a map of SSIDs, especially as it is so useful for pinpointing your location. Also, adding _nomap to the end of your SSID looks kind of silly.
