As of my posting this answer there are two major issues with Microsoft Office and Lion along with some minor cosmetic problems. Microsoft is already hard at work at fixing these issues so hopefully there will be resolution soon. I understand that the installer for Microsoft Office 2008 is PowerPC code, so it won't install under Lion. The apps themselves are universal and I can confirm that they work. There are one or two irritating bugs, but they are usable.

I haven't run into any issues with Office 2011, but I only use the applications occasionally. I have heard that Office Communicator and Outlook have some problems, but I don't use those applications at all.
Office 2004 was PowerPC so that will not work at all.
