Is it possible to upgrade the memory in the Dell Mini 10?

Noob question, I recently purchased a Dell Mini 10 with 1GB memory. Is it possible to upgrade the memory? I believe I've read elsewhere that it is not possible. HELP!

Thanks, looks like a PITA. Those instructions are for the 10v, do you know if the process is the same for the 10?

Yep it's pretty much the same, the hdd is just in a different spot though.

According to the Dell Systems Expert site, you have to remove the palm rest, keyboard, HDD, and then you can get to the memory, but I think you can get away with just the keyboard. the two screws closest to the battery on the bottom, and you should be able to pop it off easilly.

BlueLew, I spent literally 90 minutes tearing apart the Dell Mini 10v. By far the most work I have ever done to replace memory on any system. (and I thought it was a challenge to replace the HDD on a Dell XPS 2010!!.. pales in comparison).

There seems to be some misinformation here...

The Dell Mini 10 (NOT the 10v) which I own, has the memory SOLDERED to the motherboard. You cannot upgrade it! It's not just an issue of taking the system apart or the HDD being in an awkward position...it's literally impossible to remove the memory module from the system.

Having said that...Windows 7 with only a single Gig of RAM runs fine on it.

okay.... sorry, I think someone's had a little too much coffee. I just work on the things for a living. I guess I should just pack up and go home, because I looked at the tear down on my site and the site that was given earlier in discussion.

personally I think any company that puts in "fixed" memory is crazy, but if you don't want to look, i.e. take it apart, then by all means stay in the dark, but personally I think they changed the spec between the blog post, and release.

There has been no update from Dell themselves claiming the configuration has changed in any way. Do you get off getting attention on the net? I was trying to clear up what seems to be a mix up you seem to be having with the Dell Mini 10v which has a completely different chip set...the one for the Mini 10 has the RAM soldered on...it's not Dell's doing and it would take the manufacturer to change it. They haven't.

Dell is now shipping 2gb versions: en.community.dell.com/blogs/direct2dell/

But I repeat, the 1GB version shipped at the start of this year is NOT upgradable. You think it makes sense to change the configuration less than 6 months after release and then start shipping yet another update with 2GB once again soldered on? Get a clue.

Moral of this story: If you are in the market for a netbook, and it doesn't come standard with the memory you want (e.g. comes with 1GB, you want 2) do the research before you buy.
I was leaning very heavily toward a MSI Wind or a Acer Aspire. Then I discovered that getting the one was not upgradable, and the other required major surgery. I ended up with a EeePC 1000, and am happy I did.

I believe that the 10 has the memory soldered on to the main board, while the 10v has a standard slot. Upgrading the memory requires nearly complete disassembly and I have yet to do so.

For those of you with your memory soldered to the board you can use usb flash drives as memory. Granted they have a low read/write life, if they are used at the end of the memory space you may get a little life out of them and last I checked 1GB memory sticks are dirt cheap.
