Is it possible to override Whispersync?

While reading Steve Jobs today on my Nexus S, I stupidly clicked on a title that linked me to the notes section of the book which is about 79% through the book but I'm actually just about 10% through the book. When I went I back to the Kindle to read the book, it tried to sync to the 79% position since it's the "furthest page read."

Is there a way for me to manually mark the current page I'm on for Whispersync to sync across my devices? I often switch between my phone and Kindle and it would very very annoying for me to have to create a bookmark constantly just so I know where I am in the book.

@timchoi89 I had the exact same problem; I'm reading the Steve Jobs book as well and clicked on one of the notes just as you did. I am reading it on my HD7 and iPad 2 and it was maddening. I logged into my Amazon account and under the Manage My Kindle section > Manage Your Devices, I turned off Whispersync which will turn it off for any/all devices you have registered. Then when I turned Whispersync back on and synced my place on my iPad it said that it was the farthest place I had read which is what you want. Hope that helps.

You can also ask Amazon to do it for you. I asked them to do this on the same book after I finished it and my wife wanted to read it. Took about 5 minutes using live chat. Click contact us on the far right.

I did that a couple of times while reading the book. I would hit a link and all I had to do was hit the back button and I would be taken right back to where I was and there were no syncing problems at all. As far as I know, though, there is no way to disable Whispersync other than to turn off WiFi and/or 3G and correct your place in the book before syncing again.
