1. I heard it would be possible somewhere down the line. I'm wondering if it is possible yet without rooting it.

uh, yeah.... Not sure, but I owned this phone and was very annoyed at Bing. Rooting was almost impossible. I spent all night trying with no avail.. For this I hate Verizon / Samsung android phones!

After you download it you can either use a widget or make a shortcut to the app. It's possible once it is installed that when you hit the "Search" softkey it asks you which you want to be the default.
