Is it normal that disc drive makes heavy noise when inserting/ejecting discs?

If you are referring to the really loud "ka-chunk" sound, yes, this is normal. I still prefer tray-loading drives to slot-loading drives, and this is just another reason.

What kind of noise? The disc drive makes a loud "I'm ejecting/inserting", not dissimilar to this:

Any other noise, such as grinding or it sounding like a lawn mower isn't good. If you're worried, take it into the Apple store and they'll take a look at it.
