Is it easy to do gestures on the Magic Mouse?

For one thing, it's relatively flat than other mice and I think I find it is too small to do proper gestures on.

I've actually found it's pretty easy -- certainly easier than I'd initially anticipated. (I asked a while back about the Magic Mouse's ergonomics, as I was a little skeptical: gdgt.com/question/what-do-you-think-of-the-magic-m... ).

I've personally had no issues with using the mouse for long periods of time, but everyone's bodies and work environments are different.

I find it not so easy, but I would say the same thing about the Magic Trackpad ; it's not a matter of size, but rather a matter of shape.

I happen to suffer from MSDs, and these devices are to flat to be comfortable after a while. The odd shape of the Magic Mouse makes the matter worse : I have to pinch it between my thumb and pinky to stabilize it, leaving only three fingers free to do the gestures (you guessed it, pinch to zoom is impossible to achieve in this case, see Craig Federighi's demo of Mac OS X Lion to see what I'm talking about). So for me, the Magic Mouse is not the best device Apple released to control your Mac via gestures (my MacBook Air's trackpad does the job perfectly fine, thought).

But I have to admit that some handle this mouse pretty darn well. I guess you really have to test it to know for sure.

It depends on the gestures. It's great for vertical gestures (scrolling up and down) but for just about anything else I had troubles - the mouse tilts on its surface area if you move your finger or hand slightly out of the middle because its flat foundation is so small and is only held up by two relatively thin rubber stripes.

Honestly, I have this mouse and I stopped using it after a while because the gestures were difficult and I think that's why Apple decided to release the magic trackpad.

I agree that it feels too small for the gestures and i did not find the mouse all that comfortable after a while of using. i have gone to the Magic Trackpad though and find it much better than the mouse.

as for using the gestures on the mouse i never really found my self using them much as it just didn't feel right to me. oddly enough i found myself missing the scroll wheel. i know the mouse scrolled but i think it was the tactile feel of the wheel that i was missing. i have gotten used to the larger more ergonomic mice that have the scroll wheel and buttons on the side that just fit in the palm of the hand.

as for the trackpad, i love it and i think its because it feels more like a larger mouse track pad. i do use the trackpad left handed and found it really easy to use and i do use the gestures constantly on the device.

It is extremely uncomfortable for me to do any gestures with the Magic Mouse. With the whole thing being so flat and my hands being big/long fingers, the ergonomics kill my hand if I even come close to a Magic Mouse. Apple just doesn't get it.

Also the material chosen for the mouse was terrible because your fingers don't glide on it like they would with aluminum or a soft touch plastic.

It's OK; some gestures are easier than others. If you really want to use gestures in a desktop environment, you'll be better of with a Magic Pad.

gestures work nice, but that mouse is tough to hold after an hour.

I find it's not really a matter of whether it's easy, but whether it's useful done on the mouse. Which is why I have the Magic Trackpad as a left-hand controller on some systems.

This is without question the most uncomfortable, draggiest mouse I have ever used. It's so slow on a big screen that I have to pick it up a couple of times and start over just to get across the screen. Gesturing works well, but the surface is too small to do the gestures comfortably -- and as someone else mentioned, the plastic surface doesn't let your fingers glide as they would on a trackpad. Great concept, good looking device, but horrible execution. WHY CAN'T APPLE MAKE A DECENT MOUSE?
