Question about
Is it better to buy a battery for my Dell laptop directly from Dell or can I just grab one from Amazon? And if Amazon is ok.....
how do I know which one is the best to get?
I've never bought aftermarket batteries, but I have bought an aftermarket power supply before and based on that experience, I would pay extra for the official Dell stuff. When I bought the power supply, it ran significantly hotter, to the point where I thought it was literally going to melt the wiring.
I'd rather pay the extra money and have the assurance that it's going to work properly with your computer.

'the best' is Dell. 'the cheapest' will be someone else.
For many, 'the cheapest' is 'the best' and that is for example why netbooks exist.
So it depends on your priorities.
