Question about
Is it a big deal that Novatel sold 3 million MiFi devices, in 2 years?
Saw this release: investor.novatelwireless.com/releasedetail.cfm?Rel... and I was wondering what it means about the mobile hotspot market that it took Novatel 2 years to sell as many of the various models of MiFi as Apple can sell new iPhones on a launch weekend

I think the difference in the target audience and use case contribute to it.
The iPhone is a phone, pda, moble hotspot, music player, game system, camera, and many more things. The mifi is just a hot spot. For people that need to have mobile internet access on a laptop to use for longer periods of time the mifi is the answer but it comes with a price tag that is almost as high as that iPhone contract so many people who dabble are willing to just use the hotspot functionality in the phone for their limited use case. The phone is an easier sell because the number of features that can be ticked off the list makes it a compelling device.
