Personally no i don't think it will make that much of a different. they are both quad core and have 6mb of cache. But i also choose to go with the non retina model when i upgraded to this year pro line and added the RAM myself and changed out the HD to a 256 SSD.

Going from 2.3 to 2.6 is $100 in the base model.

Are you talking about the upgrade from 2.6 to 2.7 for $250 more?

Copied from the base model configuration page:

2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz [Add $100.00]

2.7GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz [Add $350.00]

The 2.3 to 2.6 upgrade is a much better deal than the 2.6. to 2.7 upgrade obviously. Since you don't have the option after the fact to upgrade the CPU, it might be a good idea to bump it up to 2.6 for $100 but another 0.1 for $250 still doesn't make sense.

Unless you're doing a ton of video or photo editing you won't notice a difference. Not worth the extra cash

Not worth upgrading the CPU unless you run processor intensive apps (like editing huge photos or running mathematical applications). The RAM upgrade is definitely worth it though!

CPU upgrades won't really address lag in a game like Minecraft. Lag is frequently a result of a network connection or when the game needs data that is on the disk and not in RAM. Having an SSD in a rMBP will help prevent much of the latency that comes from reading and writing to the disk. Upgrading the RAM would be more likely to reduce lag in such applications.
