Iphone 4 Charging Incompatibilities

I've been noticing that certain audio devices that connect with my iPhone4's charging port plays audio but does not charge. A charging error displays on screen warning that this device won't charge my iPhone. Two devices that I've noticed this happening with are my car's stereo adapter and a friends iHome. Both of which connect via the iPhone's charging port.

Does anyone have a specific explanation as to why it won't provide a charge?

I believe that some older accessories don't work to charge newer devices as they require a higher voltage. Maybe updating the firmware to the latest version on your iPhone could fix this.

You are right, for some audio devices give out only enough power to charge a iPod, but not a iPhone. That's why it is important to make sure it has a compatible with iPhone logo.
