Right now i say iPad 2. there are more tabled oriented applications for the iPad then for the Honeycomb tablets. its thin light easy to use.
But it and the Tab 10.1 are about a year old where the Xoom 2 just came out a month or so ago.
  • iPad 2 - crappy cameras, great battery life easy to use and is light to cary and there are tons of covers, cases and accessories for it.
  • Galaxy Tab 10.1 - OK cameras. very thin and light and uses the Android market and has a decent eco system. has some accessories from samsung and uses a proprietary connection like the iPad which limits the accessories since not a lot of 3rd party manufactures are making things for it.
  • Xoom 2 - 5MP rear camera, nice screen thicker than both the iPad and the Tab. uses a micro USB port which is commonly used by other devices so cables for like power and connecting to a PC wouldn't be hard to find. also has HDMI out.
i believe both the Tab and Xoom have GPS where on the iPad you need to get a 3G model for that.

between the Tab and the Xoom i would say the Xoom its newer and seems to have better hardware specs and is sure to get upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich.

That said i have an iPad 2 and a Galaxy Tab 10.1 i use them both every day but the iPad is more of my goto device. i use it at work for taking notes, e-mail and as an all around device. The Tab i use for surfing the next, in the kitchen as a cook book and a remote for the TV. i don't feel there are as many tablet applications for it as there are with the iPad. I am hoping with ICS that will change.

I hate to sound like a fanboy (because I'm about to), but the real question you should be asking is "why shouldn't I buy an iPad 2?". The overall quality of the tablet experience is so much higher on the iPad than on Android, due to a mature app and content eco-system Apple has built, as well as their well-known attention to detail and user interface design.

Of course it is probably more expensive than the others, so you have to decide how serious you are about owning a tablet. If you intend to use it earnestly and would rather 'get it right' and spend a bit extra, get the iPad. If on the other hand there is a specific requirement you have that the iPad doesn't cater for, or you think that you are perhaps 'experimenting' with tablets and don't want to invest as much money, maybe one of the others would be preferable.

I still think that at the end of the day, you'll probably regret getting an Android-powered tablet. I have never heard of anyone buying an iPad and then wishing they had bought an Android tablet!

P.S. The Kindle Fire is probably the only real iPad competitor out there at the moment due to Amazon's own very mature content delivery infrastructure and a very low price point. The reviews however point to too many user interface annoyances (some of which have been addressed in a software update recently). If it is of interest to you, hold off for now as most people expect Amazon to release another model this year.
