Question about
iOS 5 Mail Crashing
Is anyone else having issues with mail crashing on iOS 5? We have an iPad and iPhone 4 that are both having issues. Sometimes it crashes when it's processing the dynamic links for dates and times. Other times it totally random but typically more in sending than reading. The iPad has just a pop3 account. The iPhone has 5 accounts that are Gmail, iCloud and a few pop3. Both devices have had the app fully closed and items reset. I've been holding off on a hard reset. (No time to set back up fully.) What's odd is our iPad 2 isn't having this issue (that I've seen yet). I have not seen this reported much via searches so i thought I would check here.
Check the gmail support forums... also if that's not helpful delete the acct. & try again as a last resort.

I had some performance issues with my iPad 1. Not in email, but some terrible lack of responsiveness, even when navigating around settings. And couple of games crash and I have to power down and back up to get them working. After 2 days of this I did some reading online and downloaded the paid version of "System Status" ($2 or $3) which allows you to free up RAM, and occasionally doing this has made a big difference. Don't know if it'll solve your problem but for a couple of dollars it might be worth a shot, rather than doing a wipe and restore.

Totally having this problem.......on both iPad 2 and the new new iPhone 4S....Apple gave me a new iPhone today at the store, just like that....the Genius never heard of the problem though, after I spoke to Apple Care on the phone.....then I got home and synched the new phone and called Apple Care again and then they finally acknowledged that there is a random problem with email crashes. Mine generally happens just before I send mail....after I compose a letter and then boom.....it crashes and goes back to the home screen and I have to type a whole letter all over again and it does not save it as a draft....this is a random problem and I hope they release 5.1 soon and fix this bug!
