Question about
Internal keyboard and trackpad randomly stop allowing input.
Basically, at random intervals the laptop keyboard and trackpad don't register any input. The machine is definitely not locked up as the clock still counts seconds and everything on the screen still shows progress bars moving etc. Also, an external keyboard and mouse still work after the internal ones stop working.
Ultimate I upgraded machines over this issue, but I still use it for my dj (the external dj controller does not lock up, just like the external keyboard and mouse) and any insight would be very helpful.
I have yet to put Lion on the machine, but since the problem persisted from leopard to snow leopard, I am doubtful that will be the solution. (The machine is still running snow leopard.)
Thanks to all,
PC

Mine would do exactly that and I figured out what it was. If there was an excessive amount of static in the room, the trackpad and keyboard would freeze up. Seriously, try discharging static electricity from yourself and the area.

Could be something in your startup apps, menu bar app, or system preference pane.
To help troubleshoot you could try these steps:
1. login as another user;
2 Boot into safe mode, here's how: support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
3. Turn off your start-up items from Accounts in System Preferences
Maybe it's something like BetterTouchTool or some other mouse/trackpad controller app causing a problem.
Otherwise, probably a visit or call to Genius/AppleCare is in order.
Good luck.

Mine does this, but only when i'm waking it from sleep. It is more likely when the computer has been asleep for awhile, and it lasts about 30 seconds to 1 minute. I figured it was a problem with the computer initializing the internal hardware, but i think StephanieChan's explanation is more likely.
