iHP-120 skipping podcast MP3s

Ok, I realise this is a dinosaur when it comes to MP3 players, but it has been such a quality player/recorder... that is until recently.

A number of MP3 podcasts I've downloaded over recent weeks will list ok on the H120, but when trying to play them, it just skips the file (as if it's 0 seconds long).

In particular it's happening with the TWIT (twit.tv) range of podcasts (in the last month or so).

Is anyone else experiencing this, or is it just my device?

I've done a heap of tests and don't think it's caused by bit rate or id3 tags, but haven't found the cause.

Hopefully, it's not the begining of the end for my good old H120!

Have you tried installing Rockbox? www.rockbox.org/

It's an open source replacement firmware that really adds to what you can do with your player. It plays everything from aac to flac. I bet it'll play the mp3s that the original firmware is having trouble with.

I agree that the H120/140 is one of the best digital audio players ever made.

Thanks Donovan. I've installed Rockbox and it's working a treat so far.

The re-mapping of buttons in Rockbox is a little tricky to get used to (given I've been using the iRiver interface for so long) and the screen layout of most themes are quite rudimentary, but the functionality is brilliant.

Thanks again.
