I would like to install chrome OS on about 15 old Dell Latitudes. I would like to have it the main operating system. Can this be done?

I believe it can but I would not recommend it. I ran the vm image of it and even with giving it a significant amount of memory it ran incredibly slow.

I don't know what your overall intentions are but I would just look for a really lightweight linux -- essentially ChromeOS is nothing more than an incredibly stripped down Linux distro -- since it seems like all you want them to have is web access.

The school i work for is a NY state regent test exempt. We are a project based school. It works a lot like a thesis, the students have to complete one for each subject and get a regent score. The students use Google docs for their writing and share the document with the teacher that is working with them. I wanted to used these machines like a Google doc writing machine. All it will need is access to their Gmail accounts and Google docs.

The laptops are PIII machines with 256 ram. There is not much more i could do with them except level a desk. Just kidding

The OS is so slow at this point. I would at least wait till Google releases an official beta build. You should look into Ubuntu since it is free, lightweight, and just a generally great OS.

If you absolutely must have ChromeOS now, the best builds are coming from this guy, but they are not official: chromeos.hexxeh.net/

We are a MAC house but, i have 12 Linuxmint 8 systems. They work great but the people who i have using them are not at all techno savvy. They get very nervous when the word processor comes up and says OpenOffice instead of Word. They don't even know why they are nervous. The appeal to me is that i can implement the KISS philosophy (Keep It Simple Stupid). I will look at the one you sent me and give it a whirl.

If you just need google docs just install Xubuntu (xfce will be less overhead) and set the home page to the google docs log in.
