I want to get a new lens for my camera but I am not really that educated yet on the best lenses.

I have the 55-200 but I want to get a better lense with a faster shutter speed. can anyone enlighten me on what I should get.

You should definitely read up on lenses before you make any purchases. Learn about focal length, aperture and other features like image stabilization.

The shutter speed is in no way determined by a lens. The shutter is integral to the camera body and is the same irrelevant of what lens you attach. If you are trying to take images of fast-moving objects (race cars, mountain biking, etc) you want the wisest aperture possible to let the most light in as possible. This will allow you to shorten your shutter speed so you get less motion blur.

You should also read about the shutter and the role it plays so that you're clear on everything before you drop some cash on a lens.

It all comes down to what type of photos you want to shoot and then only you can decide what lenses are best for you. The most important thing is that you educate yourself first. Good luck!

It really depends on what kind of photos you take?If all you're looking for is fast shutter speeds then you need lenses which can open wide(~F/1.2)which in turn makes them expensive. If you can post your subject matter then narrowing down the choices becomes easier.

50mm f/1.4 is a recommended lens, it is cheap and deliver beautiful image.

But it all comes down to what you mainly want to photograph, if you are interested in landscape, you would want a wide to ultra-wide lens, etc
