I couldn't sworn I read articles saying that SurePress could be turned off. What I really hate about it is when you lock the phone, SurePress is disabled. I'd like that to be a permanent option.
What gives, or did I not dive into the manual deep enough?

No, I'm pretty sure you have to leave SurePress on. That's pretty much how the device works. I agree that it would be interesting to disable it so it functioned like an iPhone. But that would change the interface of the device.
