Question about

I recently was lucky enough to be given an iPad 32GB Wifi+3G for free. I was pretty happy, but I knew that I didn't need that model.

So I figured I could sell it only eBay, get some extra cash, and use some of that money to buy a 16GB Wifi model. If I ever needed 3G access I could always tether my iPhone to the iPad.

Anyways, I've been considering waiting for the next generation iPad to come out. I've read that it could be released as early as the 2010 holiday season or (more likely) spring of 2011. However I don't want to wait until spring of 2011. That seems too far away. So I'm considering just buying one now and hoping that it doesn't come out this year.

So what do you guys think? Would you wait until the new model comes out? I'm interested in hearing some of your thoughts.

I had to make this same decision myself this week. I went ahead and bought one anyway. I doubt they'd release a new version so quickly and I didn't feel like waiting until the spring like you said. I'm really hoping the 2nd gen isn't a huge upgrade. A camera on it and a little less weight.. I can do without those things to have one now. I feel like web browsing and apps are the main thing the iPad has going for it and the first gen version will still suit those purposes well for years to come.

i'm pretty sure that the expected upgrade in april (a year from the release of the first iPad) will be a camera, and maybe a bump in processor, who knows. I don't think it's be a huge upgrade.

as for selling the free ipad, keep the one you got for free. you don't have to activate a 3G plan, and IF you do, you don't have to sign a contract. you will not get the kind of money you think you can on ebay, even unopened sealed in shrink wrap. I know you are thinking "but it's $230 more than the model i want" go to ebay right now, there are an awful lot of 32gb 3G's going for around $600, that 16gb model you want is $499 plus tax, you'll go home with about $50 to spare, if you don't buy some kind of case for your new gadget. i say keep the thing, save yourself the heartache and trouble, go buy a nice case for it and enjoy it.

P.S. i have friends who use the jailbreak tether app and it's a vampire on your phone's battery.
