Question about
massayoshi

I read somewhere when I got my G1 last year that all Android devices were sim-locked only via software an as soon as I rooted my phone I could use with any…

carrier I want. Is it still this way? If not, is it possible to sim-unlock the phone without going to the carrier? Because I will get the Desire in Switzerland and will use in Brazil when I get home.

And just to clarify I plan to get from a website in Switzerland and not from any carrier.

thanks

I thought carriers in Switzerland do not sim-lock their phones other than the iPhone, which I thought you can get your carrier to unlock it relatively easily. I could be wrong, since I don't live in Switzerland, but I was pretty sure that's the case over there.

Rooting will not allow you to unlock an Android phone sadly :( There are plenty of paid unlocking services online, but I can't vouch for any of them
