I need to know do you need an actual sensor for the Nike+ for you shoe, if you have an IPhone 4?

The man today at the Nike Factory store told me I didnt need the actual sensor for my shoe if I have the app on my iphone 4. So I didnt get it, and came home and tried to get it to work (with no sensor) and typically enough, it didnt work. So How is this phone supposed to recognize a shoe with no chip?!?! And if it is a case of the device is the only thing tracking everything, than why cant i run in KSwiss or Adidas? Please help before I spend money that I may not have needed to.

I believe you need the Nike GPS app... itunes.apple.com/us/app/nike-gps/id387771637?mt=8 Uses the GPS in the phone, far more accurate than Sensor + Nike+ app anyhow. I am looking forward to using this myself.

You still need the oval sensor that you put inside your running shoes but it doesn't require the dock receiver anymore. Once you got the oval sensor set up, open settings and turn on Nike+. alternatively, you can buy the Nike app online for GPS based tracking. Whatever floats your boat.

Yes, you do need the $20.00 insert that goes in the bottom of your shoe. It connects with bluetooth to your iPhone/iPod touch. I have one and it works great.

You don't need the shoe pod. You need the Nike+ GPS App for your iPhone. It uses GPS to find out your speed, distance, and pace. It can use the shoe pod as well for more accurate tracking, but it is not necessary. You might be confusing the default Nike+ app on your phone with the GPS one, which can be bought in the app store for $1.99. And if you do get the shoe pod, it is recommended that you use Nike+ compatible shoes, but you can get a pouch that attaches to any shoe with laces to put the shoe pod in. I run in Saucauny shoes and use a pouch for my shoe pod and it works perfectly.

What about if I have an iPod Touch 4th generation? Can I still run without a Nike+ sensor?
