Question about

I'm switching to Verizon, and I want a DROID. I don't know which to pick: The Incredible or the X.

I prefer larger screens, but the myriad problems reported about the X make me pause.

Any owners of either device want to help me out here?

Thanks!

I have had a Droid X since August and I love it. Like chinster said, there are some minor issues in regards to the keyboard and the camera. Also, the stock "MotoBlur" skin sucks. I was using LauncherPro as my homescreen replacement until about a week ago when I installed GO Launcher EX. One of my friends has the Incredible and he is really pleased with it. I was considering the Incredible when I was upgrading my phone, but with my big fingers, I found myself hitting every key on the keyboard other than the key I want (it could also be because I have always been used to a physical keyboard. This is my first all touch-screen phone). The keyboards preloaded are the multi-touch keyboard and Swype. I am not a fan of Swype (maybe I just haven't given it enough time) and the multi-touch works really well in regards to responsiveness. Overall, very nice phone. I was worried at first with the phone being from Motorola and how in the past they haven't been known to produce a reliable product, but it seems the company has really turned things around and has been able to produce several working products that last. Plus, the beauty of Android allows so much customization. I mentioned the homescreen replacement earlier, but you can replace almost all of the stock apps. For example, I use Handcent SMS instead of the stock texting app and it is awesome.

Battery life was also an issue for me. There is another app called JuiceDefender that does amazingly well with managing 3G/WiFi connection.

Your best way of knowing which phone is best for you is probably to do what I did. Simply go into a Verizon store and spend a good 10 minutes or so trying out the phones in question and decide which would be best for you. However, if you can wait, you might want to try one of the 4G phones coming out like the HTC Thunderbolt.

I have the Droid X and overall it's a good device, but there are definitely aggravating, buggy moments.

Several times a day, the device freezes up when I try to use the keyboard. So frustrating when I'm trying to search something really quick only to experience the device freezing up for a couple seconds. The photo gallery app is the same way when trying to open a photo.

Another thing that annoys me is the camera. It's just not good. It has it's share of freezes, but the most frustrating thing is getting it to focus on objects within an arms length. If something relatively close to you, you'll have to put the phone in macro mode. Not that big a deal, but then the flash is turned to Auto mode and you can't turn it off. This is a great way to ruin your pictures. Also, if you want to use a barcode scanning app like Google Goggles, the focus issue is very apparent. You really need optimal light in order for the camera to focus on things properly.

My recommendation is to hold out for a bit since there were a slew of new Verizon Android devices announced at CES last week that should be promising.

I have the Incredible at the moment and it is a good phone. I don't really experience any software issues such as those mentioned here about the Droid X.

The issues I do have are hardware related. The back speaker has blown out on me twice and part of the touch screen failed after a while. Right now the issue I am having is with the ear piece speaker is blown. I just haven't had time to get it replaced.

And on the replacement note, both HTC and Verizon replace it with no issues at all. They don't give me any crap when I bring it in and show them. They next day air me a new one and I send out the broken one free of charge.

But since you like the bigger screens you might want to look at the HTC Thunderbolt. Big screen with none of the Droid X failings. And it is a 4G LGE phone.

I have had the Incredible for 8 months, and it is the best phone I have ever had. I have been using smartphones for 6 years, and I manage to get a new one almost every year, but this one has held my interest more than any other. I spent some time trying to decide between the X and the Incredible, but ultimately I went Incredible. I am 6'2" and have good-sized hands, but I have never had trouble with the screen size (remember it is smaller than the X or EVO, but it is not a small screen--bigger than the Iphone or most other screens).

The biggest differentiator for me was the skin. HTC Sense beats the pants off of the Motorola stuff. I carried the original Droid for a while, but that was fine b/c Motorola didn't skin it. Moto is getting better, but it is not as good as HTC.

Assuming this has already been resolved as it was posted 2 months ago. However, i'll just say that I found the physical build of the droid X to be much flimsier than the incredible. The buttons at the bottom felt especially "plasticy". While the X has a bigger screen and slightly better specs, I'm happy I chose the incredible.

Droid X has gingerbread right now. The droid incredible doesn't at the moment. That would be a huge advantage if you're not willing to root your device.
