Question about
I'm going to be getting a Mac Mini soon. Up to now I've always had PCs, and most of my media is on an external hard drive formatted with NTFS.
I've been Googling and found a lot of sources saying that OS X can read NTFS, but can't write, and saying to use MacFUSE to enable NTFS writing. But I haven't been able to find anything more recent than 2008 that talks about NTFS on the Mac. Has the situation changed?
You need to get MTFS-3G in conjunction with MacFUSE, it is the component that will enable you to read and write NTFS drive.

If possible I'd advise to use something other than NTFS if you want your new mac to write to those drives, some (self included) do not completely trust third party NTFS kexts, in my experience they have proven to be unstable, unreliable, and slow. However, there are plenty of others who use macFUSE and such everyday.

Why can't you put your media onto the Mac Mini and then reformat the drive to a more OS X friendly format? Are you planning on continuing to use the external drive with other Windows machines?
