Laptops typically come with a software module for controlling more features of the touchpad. Look in the system tray or in the control panel for mouse settings. You can disable "Tap to Click" which will reduce the headache you are having however it will disable tap to click in every other aspect of the OS if you are used to using it.

There was a bios update that allows you to press Fn-F12 to disable the touchpad. It is very helpful for the exact reason you mention.
