Question about
Farmacy

I just recently broke down and purchased a Kindle 2 which I had been wanting for some time.

All reviews I have read discussed the long battery life - the website states ~1 week with Wireless on, and ~2 weeks with it off. When I first received it I left wireless on as I figured for now it didn't matter to much since I would mostly be using it at home, but figured I would turn it off if I was traveling or on the go to lengthen battery life. I was surprised when the battery was almost dead after the first full charge in about 3.5 days. I chalked it up to my constant tinkering and the like. I was mostly reading, but with playing with the web browser and things a fair amount.

I shut off Wireless and charged the kindle fully. This was Thursday. Today (Sat) I was quite surprised after only reading about 1 hour Thur night and 1 hour Fri night when I turned on the kindle in the afternoon it was at about 65-70%. At this rate it will not last anywhere near 2 weeks. I had been just letting it go to "sleep" and put the random pic of an author on the screen thinking since the screen wasn't changing, but when the first charge was dropping so quickly I began holding the power slide button on top until the screen went blank. I am not sure if it was completely turning "off" or not as it doesn't go thru an extensive startup when I slide the button on top again to return to my reading later.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I have a defective kindle?

I just updated the software to the newly released 2.5 in hopes this will help.

Thanks in advance.

Did the meter say it was almost dead or did you get the warning message that the battery was nearly dead?

I'd say give it a week or two of normal use and see how it goes. If you are still having issues, contact Amazon. They have been pretty good resolving customer issues, especially with the Kindle since it's their baby.
